I never thought I’d be interested in being a triathlete. I’ve always hated running. I’ve spent years in the gym pushing weight, but I avoided cardio - especially running - as much as I could. But then a few months ago I decided to enter the Navy Seals Fitness Challenge because it sounded fun. I have never really competed in athletics (except for my very short stint on the beach volleyball circuit) so I thought it would be a good opportunity to test myself against others. In the end, I didn’t do too bad. My swimming time was decent (although I blame slow swimmers in my lane that cost me time), I exceeded standards in pushups, situps and pullups, but my time in the 1.5mile run was HORRIBLE. It took me almost 20min. But I had never run 1.5miles in my entire life.
Now, as a result of that little competition I’ve become interested in competing in more multi-sport competitions, especially triathlons. I am now training to eventually compete in my first triathlon. And I’m not looking just to complete the course. I’m looking to place in the top 10.
